GC-IRMS

Gas chromatograph - isotope ratio mass spectrometer (GC-IRMS) is an instrument for measuring the stable isotope ratios of organic compounds.

※We have made a lot of modification, to improve the sensitivity, accuracy, stability, and reproducibility of analysis. See details (in Japanese).

(a) Mode for measuring 13C/12C of organic compounds

Organic compounds are oxidized into CO2, H2O, and NOx in a combustion furnace, and then NOx is converted to N2 gas in a reduction furnace. After removing H2O, CO2 and N2 are introduced into the IRMS.

(b) Mode for measuring 15N/14N of organic compounds

A liquid N2 trap is installed between the H2O trap and IRMS, to remove CO2.
