for glacier surface

Strain measurement system has been developed
to investigate flow of glacier. Change in
the distance between two poles (approximately
a few meters) on glacier is measured with
a linear voltage displacement transducer
through the movement of wire stretched from
the pole to pole. High resolution (=10-7),
wide range (=}10-3)@and continuous recording
have been achieved in the measurement of
thermal strain of an ice block. Strain measurement
on Koryto Glacier, Kamchatka with this system
is planed to be carried out from July to
September, 2000.
