研究目的 Photoacclimation of ice algae community is one of the most distinct response to the low light intensity in the high latitude. Few detailed study has been made for the analyses of photosynthetic response characterized by the electron transport rate of Photosystem II because the methodology has not been established yet for the ice algae analysis. The methodology and experimental protocols are aimed to be established in the present study.
  
研究内容・成果 Based on the methodology established in the precedeing project funded in 2010, photosynthetic acclimation to low light regime was determined on the ice algal community developed well in the 2011 fiscal year. In 2012 ice season of Saroma-ko Lagoon, the sea ice was well developed to about 50cm ice thickness. The bottom surface population of ice algae was collected to employ for the analysis of electron transport rate of Photosystem II. A succession in the photosynthetic acclimation in accordance with the development of sea ice was observed between 2010 and 2012 ice season. It may suggest that a full acclimation to the ice condition in Saroma-ko Lagoon requires more than 30 days.
  
成果となる論文・学会発表等 Based on the methodology established during the preceding project funded in 2011, and 2012, the advancement of photoacclimation determined by the maximum fluorescence efficiency of Photosystem II in ice algae in Saroma-ko was identified between sea ice seasons in 2010 and 2012.

The most recent results have been either reported at the International Symposium held in National Institude of Polar Research in October 2012 or will be presented at the International Symposium in Monbetsu in February 2013 and the annual meeting of Oceanographic Society of Japan in March 2013 as followed.
