Langhovde Glacier is a fast flowing outlet galcier in East Antarctica. From December 2011 to February 2012, we perfomed hot water drilling on the floating tongue of this tidewater glacier to investigate subshelf environment and its role in the glacier dynamics. We drilled four boreholes through to the bed at two locations, and conducted measurements and sampling beneath more than 400 m thick ice. Langhovde Glacier Drilling Project is a research program of 53rd Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition organized by NIPR and partly supported by MEXT Grant-in-Aid 23403006.
