Field campaign in Trambau Glacier 2016
Himalayan Glaciers are retreating with rates highly variable in each
region. Glaciers in Himalaya are often covered with rocks and gravels,
which insulate the ice surface from atmosphere and reduce melt. This
is one of the reasons why glacier retreat in Himalaya is complex. To
study processes governing recent variations of debris covered glaciers
in Himalaya, we visited Trambau Glacier in Rolwaling Himal,
Nepal. After trecking for a week, we reached 4,000 m a.s.l. and saw
the glacier beyond the biggest glacial lake in Himalaya, Tso Rolpa
Lake. This study is a part of a JSPS granted research project lead by
Nagoya University.
