++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Subject: [SICOPOLIS:123] Native binary output option deleted From: Ralf Greve Date: 2021-12-16, 11:31 To: SICOPOLIS ML Dear all, meanwhile, the AD/adjoint developers gave me their OK, and since there haven't been any other requests to keep it, I have now deleted the option for native binary output of time-slice files (previous parameter setting NETCDF==1). NetCDF output is now the only available option (previously NETCDF==2), and the NETCDF parameter is gone. This involved some changes in the configuration script sico_configs.sh. As always, if you execute a `git pull`, only the template in sicopolis/runs/templates will be updated, but not the actually used version in sicopolis/runs. You can keep on using the old version as long as the now redundant NETCDF_FLAG is set to "true", or use the new version by merging in your local changes (if any). However, for most real-world applications it is needed anyway as input is often available as NetCDF only (ISMIP6 etc.). So, while a loss of simplicity in principle, in practise I don't think it makes a difference. > > following up on this matter: > > The AD/adjoint developers would like to keep the option for native binary output of time-slice files (NETCDF==1) for a while longer to make the AD tool fit for NetCDF.
