Education

Graduate students are supposed to belong to courses in Atmosphere-Ocean and Climate Dynamics or Cryosphere Science of Division of Earth System Science, Graduate School of Environmental Science, Hokkaido Univ. Master and Doctor degrees will be granted by our university after completing their courses.
We have our group seminar named "Polar Research Seminar" together with Ocean dynamics research group and Pan-Okhotsk research center of our institute.

Characteristics

We are involved in the operation of HF radar for ocean current off the Hokkaido coast facing the Sea of Okhotsk, cooperating with Pan-Okhotsk research center.
In winter we conduct sea ice observation in the southern Sea of Okhotsk with the icebreaker P/V "SOYA" in cooperation with Japan Coast Guard.
In addition, we are also involved in the educational program of International Antarctic Institute, which is one of the major contributions of our institute, and thus are much interested in international cooperation in research and education.
